How to Spend the Perfect Day in Portland, Maine
Portland, Maine, is the perfect cozy and coastal destination. Whether you're a foodie, a history buff, or just someone who loves being by the water, there’s something here for you. Here’s how I spent a day in Portland.
Start Your Day at The Holy Donut
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? Kick things off with a stop at The Holy Donut. These aren’t just any donuts—they’re made with Maine potatoes, giving them a unique, dense texture. I grabbed the apple cider donut (a seasonal must in the fall! If you're there in the summer, try the wild blueberry!) and paired it with a cup of fresh apple cider. 🧑🍳💋
Hop on a Lighthouse Boat Tour
No trip to Portland is complete without seeing its iconic lighthouses, and what better way to do that than by boat? I joined the Best of Maine Lighthouse Cruise, which gave me the perfect view. You can book the same tour here.
Lunchtime at Portland Lobster Co.
After the boat tour, head straight to Portland Lobster Co. for lunch. I ordered a steamed lobster, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Follow your heart. 💕🦞
Explore the Old Port District
This area is full of cobblestone streets, unique boutiques, and waterfront views. Take your time popping into shops, admiring the boats in the harbor, and soaking up the vibe. I made a stop at Bard Coffee for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Their coffee is fantastic, and it’s the perfect place to recharge before dinner.
Dinner at Eventide Oyster Co.
Oh, Eventide. If you’re going to splurge on one meal in Portland, make it this one. I’m still dreaming about their brown butter lobster roll—the flavors are unreal. I also tried their oysters, which might just be the best I’ve ever had. The staff is super knowledgeable and will help you pick the perfect selection.
Dessert at Gross Confectionary Bar
You’ve got to save room for dessert, and Gross Confectionary Bar is the place to go. This spot feels like a hidden gem, with creative and decadent desserts that will blow your mind. It's the perfect place for your post-dinner sweet treat, and there's nothing gross about it!
Drinks at Blythe and Burrow
Wrap up your day with a cocktail at Blythe and Burrow. Their drink menu is unique, and I loved the vibe here! (Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of this, but I promise that it was great!)
And there you have it—the perfect day in Portland, Maine. From donuts to lighthouses, lobster rolls to cocktails, this city has so much to offer. Have you been to Portland? What were your favorite spots? Let me know in the comments or send me a DM on Instagram!
