Looking for a sweet Southern weekend getaway? Spend your weekend in Savannah Georgia! Savannah is a gorgeous and low-key place for a relaxing weekend with plenty to do. Here is my list of my top 10 things to do in all my visits there.
1. Find the key to Mata Hari’s Speakeasy
If you’re looking for a little bit of a mystery to solve, try to find the key to Mata Hari’s Speakeasy while you explore downtown Savannah. Mata Hari’s will transport you back in time to the days of prohibition and jazz and is sure to impress. Order the once banned Absinthe, it’s on fire! (pun intended)
2. Take a ghost tour at the #2 most haunted city in America
I love to take ghost tours in cities that offer them because it is a fun way to get a new take on the local history! You will be taken to the local haunted hotels, bars, and restaurants to learn about the tragedies that took place and the eerie instances ever since!
3.Take a Savannah Slowride 15 person bicycle tour
This is SO MUCH FUN! Hop on a 15 person bicycle and explore the city in the most fun way yet! Savannah Slowride offers a large variety of city tours to take on the giant bike, day and night! Everything from pub crawls to art, history, and architecture tours, kill two birds with one stone and take their “Boos Cruise” to get your haunted history fix!
4. Farmers Market
Shop like a local, from the locals at the Forsyth Farmers Market! Support local business while walking through the park and grab a bite to eat, or some coffee to bring back home!
5. Paula Deen’s Sunday Buffet at The Lady and Sons
Prepare yourself for some AMAZING Southern cooking and the food coma to follow! Get the Sunday Buffet at The Lady and Sons for all the Fried chicken, green beans, and mashed potatoes you can handle, and so much more!
6. Take a walk down Jones Street, Southern Livings most beautiful street in North America
When you need to walk off that Paula Deen’s head to Jones Street and take in the view of the oak trees draped with spanish moss tunneling around the street and dream of the beautiful houses along the way.
7. Visit the Colonial Park Cemetery
I know that sounds weird, but I promise it’s not! The cemetery is a beautiful walk, and remember to take a few minutes to read the exciting stories about the people buried there and how they passed. (Gun fights and all!)
8. Get a Coffee from Foxy Loxy’s Cafe
When you start to get worn out from all this walking it’s time to recharge with a coffee at Foxy Loxy Cafe! I had an iced coffee that hit the spot and had me ready to move on to my next adventure! If you’re not sure where to go next ask your barista, they will be sure to give you some great, local advice!
9. Visit River Street and watch the ships pass through the Savannah River
River Street is a great place to be day or night! This is where all the nightlife happens but is the perfect place in the afternoon to sit down and watch as the ships pass through the Savannah River right in front of you!
10. Visit the Savannah Bee Company
I bet you had no idea how many different types of honey there are, and how different each one is! Let the Savannah Bee Company enlighten you! They offer honey tastings with people there to educate you on the different types of honey, as well as a mead tasting! For those of you who don’t know what mead is like I didn’t, it’s basically wine made from honey, pretty cool, right?!
There is plenty more to do in Savannah than the short list here, but this is a great start for your first time! Savannah is so beautiful and I would encourage anyone to visit for a great weekend!! What’s your favorite place in Savannah?
